Position Overview
About the Position
The Operations and Maintenance division is a customer-driven team providing day-to-day maintenance and successful operation of all County facilities. We are looking for a skilled Plumber who will deliver quality work and has a strong focus on customer service to join our
O&M team. The workgroup consists of numerous crafts and specialty trades, including electricians, locksmiths, trades generalists, and HVAC technicians. Teamwork is a priority working in County buildings 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
About the Department of Facilities Management
As the landlord for all facilities owned by Maricopa County, the Facilities Management Department is responsible for all planning, design, construction, tenant improvements, maintenance, and operations of 209 facilities comprising over 10.0M square feet. The Design and Construction Division is made up of a collaborative team providing construction and design services to meet the functional needs of Maricopa County Departments.

Three years of journey-level commercial plumbing experience
OR
Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education in the plumbing field may substitute for two years of the experience requirement.

Essential Job Tasks

Removes, replaces, and repairs toilets, porcelain and stainless steel, faucets, valves, and meters, tempering valves, vent lines, pumps, water softeners, water heaters, showers, urinals, flush valves, flow meters, boilers, steam traps, drinking fountains, and ice machines
Repairs sewer lines, grease traps, lead cast iron joints
Safely operates sewer machines 1065, 300, 100, 80 jetters, cameras, and locators
Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and systems
Operates PC and Handheld device for time management, work order assignments and status, inventory, and other functions as required
Responds to emergencies during and after hours
Working Conditions
The job is performed under some temperature extremes, confined areas, high noise levels, dim lighting, dust or smoke, potential contagious diseases, and traumatic subject matter. Jail environments and in hot/humid conditions regularly. Exposure to various forms of hazardous energy sources relating to mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems. These duties require lifting/ deadlifting (floor to waist) of up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, squatting, pushing or pulling is required of up to 100 pounds, up to 100 feet while navigating through equipment rooms, on building rooftops, and in restrictive areas. Must be able to safely climb, ladders scaffolding, and step stools to execute duties. Requires bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling indoors and outdoors. Must be capable of using various forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to fulfill the position's requirements. This position may require a rotating on-call/standby schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Special working environments include but are not limited to: adult & juvenile detention facilities; medical facilities, both detention and public health; forensics; courts; related justice facilities.

Holidays and Leave
Maricopa County observes ten paid holidays per year. Most County employees accrue vacation (starting at three weeks per year for full-time employees) and sick leave (starting at one hour for every 30 hours worked for all employees). Employees also receive paid leave for other needs such as jury duty, civic duty, and bereavement.
Medical, Prescription, Behavioral Health, Dental, Vision, and Flexible Spending Accounts
We understand how important health care is to maintaining a good quality of life. We also know our employees want to have the freedom to choose benefit plans to best meet their needs. Eligible employees may choose from four medical plan options, an HMO, PPO, and two HDHP (High Deductible Health Plans) with a health savings account. When employees enroll in medical coverage, they are automatically enrolled in prescription and behavioral health coverage as well. There are three dental plans from which to choose, two PPO plans and a pre-paid dental plan that functions like an HMO. As is the case with medical, the plans range in cost, flexibility, and network of providers. The vision plan provides employees and their covered dependents access to routine vision services and materials, including an annual eye exam. For those who wish to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses, the flexible spending accounts are suitable for that need.
Life and Disability Insurance
Because life sometimes takes unexpected turns, the County offers life insurance coverage to help employees and their loved ones in the event of death. Basic life and basic accidental death & dismemberment insurance equivalent to one times an employee's annual base salary is provided at no cost, with the option for employees to purchase additional coverage including spouse and child life insurance. Disability insurance is available to replace a portion of an employee's salary should they experience a short-term illness or injury.
Retirement
Eligible employees are covered by one of several State-sponsored retirement pension plans, including the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) and the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS). Additionally, there's the option to contribute to a 457(b) Savings Plan that provides employees with a variety of investment opportunities. For those employees who retire from the County and from their retirement system, and have accrued 1,000 or more hours of sick leave, the County makes a $10,000 contribution to a Post-Employment Health Plan set up on their behalf to be used for payment of eligible out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
