POSITION PROFILE
The Maintenance Apprentice is a developmental position with a goal of learning the maintenance fundamentals and how to apply the principles in order to create a safe work environment to eventually assist with production equipment troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining in order to support the achievement of the Knoll’s business goals and objectives. This position is under the direction of the Maintenance Manager which has a guided approach to develop into a Maintenance Technician through related coursework, on the floor application of principles, evaluations, and testing.
Daily Duties
Learns how to repair and maintain plant equipment such as, but not limited to, hydraulic/pneumatic equipment (cylinders, valves, controls, & sensors), conveyor systems, part fixtures, servo drives/motors, electrical motors, automated manufacturing equipment, bearings, safety sensors, motion controls, sewing/textile equipment, control systems, and PLCs
Learns how to utilize proper lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work permit procedures to maintain a safe environment while following EHS/regulatory procedures
Learns how to perform Preventative Maintenance tasks effectively and efficiently while staying in budget
Learns how to utilize mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings/schematics where applicable to assist with troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and/or repairs
Learns how utilize Ladder Logic Schematics to assist with troubleshooting
Learns how to utilize tools and shop equipment such as, but not limited to, general hand tools, drill press, lathe, mill, bandsaw, and presses
Learns about installing, modifying, and/or updating of equipment as required
Learns how to create detailed reports of diagnoses and repairs performed on equipment with CMMS
Learns about inventory management and helps to maintain an accurate inventory of parts
Learns the spare parts ordering process and assists with ordering required parts; works with vendors as required
Helps to maintain a clean work/production environment daily and after maintenance work has been performed
Participates in Continuous Improvement events including Kaizens
Helps to create and maintain TPM programs
Required to work other assigned shifts as to meet business needs
Performs other duties as required
Required Skills
Possesses interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships within the team and the organization
Understands and utilizes Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel
Possesses a high level of urgency and can work with minimal supervision
Required Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Possesses a High School diploma or GED
Has the ability to work in a team setting or alone
Preferred Qualifications
Possesses a Technical Certification or an Associate Degree in maintenance, mechatronics, or an engineering related discipline
Has prior troubleshooting and Preventative Maintenance experience
