DIVISION CHIEF – FIRE / FIRE MARSHAL
SALARY RANGE: $96,053 to $128,721 The Division Chief is a supervisory and administrative class position, working under the direction of the Fire Chief. The Fire Division Chief is responsible for implementing, organizing, and directing the activities of the Fire Department. Incumbents in this class direct and supervise fire personnel and assume responsibility for efficiently and effectively administering assigned programs in firefighting, fire prevention, fire services.
Essential Job Duties
Performs on-site command and directs emergency operations of Rescue, Firefighting, EMS and hazardous material incidents until relieved by Fire Chief.
Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the work of all personnel.
Maintains emergency readiness in all assigned fire and EMS equipment and supplies, including the ability to be dispatched whether in the station, from the station, or out of the station. Responsible for planning and overseeing the routine maintenance of apparatus, equipment and tools.
Responsible for coordination of all phases of fire department training, including continuing education.
Prepares and maintains required records for the State of Texas.
Prepares and maintains required records pertaining to personnel records, research materials, reports and training.
Fire Prevention Officer: Responsible for the coordination of a fire safety and education program.
Responsible for fire code enforcement inspections and related records management under direction of Fire Chief.
Ability and knowledge to operate any fire apparatus or other departmental vehicle.
Maintain certification in Fire and EMS disciplines required.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules and regulations pertinent to Fire Department activities; principles and practices of firefighting, fire safety, fire prevention and inspection techniques; fire training practices and techniques; principles and practices of fire administration and supervision. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate staff; direct and evaluate firefighting efforts, use sound judgment and react calmly under emergency conditions; plan, assign, review and supervise operations of firefighting equipment and personnel under emergency conditions; express one’s self clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; keep records and make reports.
Education Graduation from high school or G.E.D. An Associate Degree in Fire Science or related subject area is preferred. Must possess a Class “B” Texas Driver’s License. Advanced Fire Fighter Certification, Inspector I and II/ Plans Examiner must obtain Fire Instructor II and Fire Life Safety Educator issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection within one (1) year, Active Paramedic Certification as issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
