Job Overview: Responsible for directing the efforts of Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions Southern California in-house refrigeration mechanics. Responsible for ongoing training of refrigeration mechanics, as new equipment, materials and processes become available. Responsible for directing in-house refrigeration mechanics and/or Authorized Service Providers for the maintenance, leak rate, service and repairs of refrigeration, HVAC and EMS systems in retail locations. Provide guidance and recommendations relevant to specifications, design, scope, and bidding of all HVAC and refrigeration projects. Responsible for service contracts and selection of all Authorized Service Providers to maintain over 340 retail locations on a 24 / 7 / 365 basis and directing emergency and on-call. Provide oversight of the EAM / Corrigo service call tracking system, Trakref, all data in the VMS system. Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Responsible for the training of all in-house refrigeration mechanics. Provide recommendations and direction for all pre-construction refrigeration surveys for stores scheduled for construction, remodel or expansion. Responsible for directing Refrigeration Mechanics in all areas of refrigeration and HVAC. Responsible for assisting the Construction Department in their efforts to build or remodel stores within the Division. Provide support to the Energy Manager to achieve improved system performance and reduced energy consumption and costs. Responsible for the proper application and handling of all refrigerants in compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as compliance with company refrigerant handling policies and procedures. Responsible for any service contracts necessary to maintain overall store conditions and standards as established by Albertsons Companies Act as coordinator between the Division and Corporate in the selection of equipment and materials for remodel or upgrade projects as required. Responsible for completing the post opening refrigeration walk through at new and remodeled stores. Oversees the dispatch function to ensure prompt service to all stores and immediate response to emergency situations. Manage all aspects of the in-house refrigeration mechanics assigned to ensure company guidelines and safety policies are followed Manage a fleet of service trucks issued to in-house mechanics. Maintain, coordinate, and approve services for all outside vendor services as required to support HVAC, refrigeration and EMS - plumbing, electrical, carpentry, refrigeration and in-store equipment repairs and/or replacements Request, track and coordinate purchase orders for division maintenance capital improvement projects Identify, coordinate and assign needed Preventative Maintenance projects, cleaning schedules, and waste reduction projects Maintain accurate tracking and recording of division EPA and CARB refrigeration reporting, train in-house mechanics and ensure compliance in refrigerant reporting. Provide daily support and guidance for individual store refrigeration and HVAC inquiries and / or issues Review and approve all vendor invoices as required Job Requirements: (Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) College or Trade School Degree in related field preferred and/or equivalent work experience in areas of refrigeration, electrical and facility maintenance. Thorough knowledge of refrigeration systems used in a supermarket environment is required. Knowledge of current refrigeration system controls (ComTrol, Danfoss, CPC and others) is required. Experience in HVAC maintenance & repairs Able to accept after-hours emergency calls or calls received after normal business hours, when required, to support the overall operation of each store location. Possess good leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others. Able to motivate and work with others to achieve desired results. Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in-person and over the telephone. Basic computer skills required, including Word and Excel. Ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion or work activities. Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions. Some travel required, including occasional overnight. Physical Environment: 80% travel may be required. After-hours emergency calls will need to be responded to. Some work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Some work is performed in exterior ambient conditions. Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal. Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, PDA and other office equipment in the course of normal workday. Incumbent must be able to get access to all parts of the facility supervised including but not limited to; roof's, basements, crawl spaces, etc. Ladder climbing to mechanical rooms and roofs, stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching will be required in completion of job duties.
