Job Description:
What’s the role?
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be accountable for inorganic elemental analysis areas employing ICP, XRF, and various sample preparation techniques (acid digestion, extraction, microwave digestion, ashing, dissolution, etc.) and physical property testing (Pore Size Distribution, Surface Area Analysis, etc.). Perform method development and complex non-routine analyses under guidance of more senior colleagues.
Key accountabilities:
Determine the appropriate method to use for a range of routine and some non-routine samples, using and adapting, with some assistance from Scientists and senior colleagues, sample preparation and instrumental methods.
Perform sample preparation and analysis in conformance with established analytical and safety procedures, using a range of solid and liquid chemicals, laboratory glassware, ovens, electronic balances, and instruments, with due attention to safety, including seeking assistance and advice when appropriate. Adapt methods as needed, with some assistance from local colleagues, for new or different sample types.
Perform calibration following established procedures; modify procedures under guidance by experienced colleagues as needed. Evaluate QA sample results and instrument output to ensure data quality. Perform maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair instruments of assigned area with guidance from more senior/experienced colleagues, and address data quality issues as they arise.
Independently process data using general analytical- and technique-specific software and generate analysis reports for sample submitters.
Present experimental methods employed and discuss results obtained in written reports with sample submitters and in internal team presentations. Initiate work to modify analytical procedures as required.
Function as lab monitor, apply HSSE rules; recognize possible hazards, act upon them, and initiate work process changes where needed; Understand the Permit to Work process. Manage material flow through the lab (samples, chemicals, solvents, and wastes etc.)
Support team lead in managing workload and priorities, document job aid/SOP and train onsite worker on routine tasks/methods.
Skills & Requirements
A legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
BS in Science field with at least 4 years’ experience, or AS with at least 7 years’ experience in equivalent roles.
Demonstrated ability to handle ICP, XRF, microwave digestion, acid digestion, extraction, ashing, PSD, SA for extrudate and catalyst.
Demonstrated experience using relevant Analytical instruments, performing routine to moderately complex data analysis, and reporting routine results to customers for Analytical technical areas mentioned above.
Demonstrated ability to handle a limited range of sample-dependent method adaption for non-routine samples.
Demonstrated ability to utilize and adapt IT tools.
Experience with PQR and SAP is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate with stakeholders & manage delivery for a broad set of test methods/instruments where priorities and timelines can vary over time, and initiate action when these cannot be successfully managed.
Demonstrated ability to maintain, enforce, and improve a quality control regime.
Experience with ISO compliance (BMS & QMS) and SQC is a plus.
