The
Equipment Mechanic
within
Facilities Services Vehicle Repair Center
will perform all phases of automotive related repair work which includes engine repair, transmission, electrical, HVAC, tune up, suspension, brakes, and wheel alignment, using diagnostic scan tools for OBD l and OBD ll emissions systems. The Vehicle Repair Center is a full service oriented operation responsible for the maintenance of state owned vehicles, turf equipment, snow removal equipment, heavy equipment, marine equipment, and emergency standby generators. On site repairs are performed by state of the art technicians operating under restricted time constraints.
This position requires incumbent to develop working knowledge of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. safety policies and procedures; attend evening training courses; and attend the required training courses and obtain mandatory certifications.
Required Skills
Knowledge of safety rules and procedures related to trade and abide by all OSHA safety regulations.
Knowledge of digital VOM use to test and repair electrical circuits
Knowledge of lead acid and AGM batteries and proper testing procedures
Working knowledge of the following; hydraulic systems, using valve & seat grinding equipment, hydraulic press, tire changer, tire balancer, floor jacks, wheel alignment equipment, all mechanical hand and power tools used in trade, mechanical, hydraulic, and air brake systems
Must be technically and mechanically oriented
Must be familiar with SDS sheets (Safety Data Sheets)
Proficient at welding
Ability to attach test instruments to equipment and machinery in order to diagnose malfunctions
Ability to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul cars, trucks, and all types of gas and diesel powered engines
Ability to disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differentials
Ability to use diagnostic scan tools for OBD l and OBD ll emission systems
Ability to repair an unfamiliar problem through the use of technical manuals and other diagnostic means
Ability to operate computers to help diagnose problems using Alldata and other online resources, etc.
Ability to work on aerial platform machinery without fear of heights
Ability to work around and handle many types of chemicals used in the trade
Ability to preform Light metal fabrication work
Ability to read electrical schematics in order to diagnose and repair 12 & 24 volt electrical systems, alternators, generators, and starters
Ability to perform general maintenance and thorough safety inspections
Ability to receive and carry out instructions and be self-motivated
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, other crafts, and the campus community
Work outside at times in inclement weather
Ability to respond to call outs after hours and weekends or work overtime when required

Lifting: Ground to 36 inches, up to 90 Lbs. Ground to 8 inches over head height, up to 25 Lbs.
Carrying: Front carry up to 90 Lbs, for 10 feet.
Pushing/Pulling: (during the use of tools) 150 Lbs maximum, 100 Lbs sustained.
Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing or crouching position while using tools.
Reaching with your arms in all directions.
Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.
Use of various grip circumferences and strengths as well as static grip positions during the use of various tools (4 1/2 to 5 1/2 circumference needing an average of 50 Lbs of grip force) and while manipulating various work materials (maximum 100 Lbs).
Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment
Minimum Required Experience
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficient at welding using Arc, MIG, and Gas
Proficient at brazing and use of Oxy Acetylene torches
Operation of metal lathe
Use of cylinder hones and tools used in engine machining/rebuilding
Ability to use precision measuring tools, micrometers, and dial gauges
ASE certification
Knowledge of various metal grinding operations
Knowledge of air brake system diagnostics and repair
Working knowledge of metal band saw, sheet metal brakes, sheet metal shear
Knowledge of hydraulic system diagnostics and repair
