SUMMARY

Ft. Wainwright, AK.
The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are
not
intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.
Operates heavy equipment such as plows, mowers, backhoes, tractors, dump trucks, sand spreader, front-end loader and other equipment to maintain and repair roads and grounds.
Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials.
Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
Performs snow and ice control operations.
Performs pavement sweeping operations.
Performs road grading operations.
Operate, repair, and maintain the fuel systems; Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, in accordance with EPA requirements, State of Alaska DEQ regulations, and manufacturer's specifications.
Must wear and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, hardhat, etc.
Operate, repair, and maintain compressed air systems
Supports the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills.
This position has been designated as Mission Critical.  Mission Critical personnel are defined as those required to meet the Installation’s safety (including inclement weather for snow and ice control) and security needs during lockdown conditions.
This position may be part of an emergency management/response team as required by the company to meet contract requirements.

Required (Minimum) Qualifications
Three (3) years experience at the journeyman level. Experience on government services contract desirable.
 High school diploma. Completion of technical courses on applicable equipment operated.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Journeyman credentials through an accredited apprenticeship, trade school, or training program.
Commercially licensed and insured to operate vehicles in the State of Alaska on federal, state, and local highway systems.
Must maintain current commercial driver’s license for the type of vehicle being operated.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions.  Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
