SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for inspecting,
assembling and wrapping procedure trays, instrument trays, linens, and surgical
supplies for sterilization. Also responsible for sterilization processes. Maintains
appropriate supply levels to meet patient care requirements.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
Knowledge
of all surgical instruments.Inspects
instruments for cleanliness and proper function and prepares them for
sterilization using procedure cards.Assembles
and prepares procedure trays, instruments trays, linens and surgical supplies
for sterilization according to Quality Assurance procedures.Proper
labeling of instruments by set name and identifying who they belong to,
including any missing items.Operates
steam and low temperature sterilizers according to standard practice.Prioritizes
instrument sets needing to be sterilized.Works
with consignment sets and sales representatives to ensure availability of
necessary instruments.Correctly
identifies where specific instruments are kept.Ability
to issue supplies to requesting areas via computer.Maintains
records of instrument sets for productivity and quality assurance.Maintains
inventory of sterile supplies.Answers
telephone; fills special request orders.Fills
surgery case list orders with proper instrumentation.Maintains
organized work area and performs departmental cleaning as required.Maintains
record keeping of sterilization/decontamination process. Accurately and legibly fills out all
mandated sterilization documents according to procedures.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates
in departmental Performance Improvement activities. Works
in the decontamination area.
','!*!MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
High
school diploma or GED required.Ability
to read, write, comprehend, and speak English. Basic
Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and
certifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
and American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.Computer
knowledge preferred.Knowledge
of surgical instruments and sterilization process preferred.
