What roles, tasks and activities will the Heavy Equipment Operator/Rigger perform?

Fulfill Equipment Operation and Maintenance activities in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner, by ensuring that all necessary procedures, practices,- standards, rules and documented and followed.

Operates medium equipment including, forklifts and manlifts to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move equipment or material (such as pallets or skids).

Safely operates a variety of cranes, including but not limited to Cherry Picker, Boom Truck, and Carry Deck.

Uses outriggers, load charts, for crane and lift stability and safety.

Select, inspect, and prepare slings, spreaders, shackles, and hooks to rig to equipment.

Prepares rigging setup for stable lift. Places supports in position to receive load and remove rigging. Ensures outriggers and screw jacks are in position.

Instructs and leads other employees in setting up rigging.

Instructs and inspects other employees in modifying the crane ; this includes extending jibs or dead sections, changing blocks, changing cable, changing multi and single part lines.

Expert on Standard Hand signals, also uses voice and radio communication.

May lead a crew and expedite the work of the crew, explains tasks to new workers.

Ensure that equipment is operated and maintained with maximum efficiency and productivity by initiating corrective action and ensuring operating, maintenance and engineering standards are adhered to.

Requirements

What do we need from the successful candidate?

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future without requiring sponsorship.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be able to communicate effectively.

Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must have a minimum of five (5) years of current experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Rigger or military equivalent.

Must have an industry accredited certification such as an NCCCO with TSS and TLL, and NCCER Intermediate Certified Plus or NCCCO Level 1.

Must be able to operate medium equipment such as forklifts and manlifts.

Familiarity with safety practices and techniques relating to the chemical industry. (e.g., LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, etc.)

Must reside within the area or be willing to relocate.

Must be willing to accept callouts and meet call-out standards and willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime supporting maintenance demands as needed.

Must possess and maintain a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.

Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

A condition of employment for this position is successful completion of a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, background check, driving record check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.

Willing to take a Shell physical every 2 years in compliance with DOT standards.

Willing to support and comply with the company’s safety policies and initiatives.

Physical Task Requirements

Willing to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without accommodation.

Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled area, such as column platforms, pipe racks, operating units, etc.

Ability to independently perform tasks as required.

Ability to safely handle weights up to 50 pounds frequently
