Homeland Security Planner (AACOG) The Homeland Security Planner serves as project coordinator overseeing multiple projects, executing effective completion of objective driven assignments and tasks for projects related to Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness within the Alamo Area Council Of Governments (AACOG) Public Safety Homeland Security Program; Duties include overseeing and serving as a liaison to the Regional Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee (REPAC) and its associated sub-committees, conducting research, preparing reports and minutes, developing various regional planning documents and facilitating training as needed; Oversees the assembly of the Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA), State Preparedness Report (SPR), and Implementation Plan (IMP); Performs moderate data management functions and executes planning/preparedness activities directly related to the required annual planning documents; Monitors jurisdictions and grant funding allocations to ensure compliance with State Guidelines; Requires that the employee be self-motivated, employ sound time management practices, and exercise a considerable degree of discretion; Facilitates planning efforts to ensure that the regional alerts initiative, that includes the America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response (AMBER) Alert and associated alerts, are supported in the Alamo Region; Ability to maintain proficiency during crisis situations/contingency operations and aid in various National Incident Management System (NIMS) planning sections if needed; Necessary responsiveness to participating AACOG jurisdiction/agency requests may require certain special considerations, such as extended overnight travel and rotational hours of work; May require irregular work hours; May be requested to work on-call in an emergency situation by a participating AACOG jurisdiction/agency. Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Degree and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field; Valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required: Proficient to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the position; Additional background checks may be required initially and periodically for continued employment; Ability to use regional resources effectively and efficiently. This position is a Pay Grade 13, with a starting annual salary of $42,583.32. Open until filled.
