What’s the role?
Laboratory Technician position is in the Polymer Science organization located at the Polymer Innovation Center on the Monaca site. Polymer testing in the Innovation Center will be done to support product qualification and product performance at the customer. Customers are processing Shell’s polyethylene to make consumer products like blown film, blow molded bottles and injection molded parts. Understanding these customer processes and the performance of the produced parts is important to Polymer Science.
Primary responsibility of the lab technician is to perform all the polymer test equipment in line with the international test standards like ASTM and ISO.
The Lab technician operates in a team consisting of technicians and scientists. The Polymer Science team works with Technical Service Team and the Quality Control lab to support Shell Polymers Monaca.
The Lab technician is expected to take progressively the following responsibilities:
Performs product testing in line with the industry test and licensor standards according to Shell’s safety standards for the generation of reliable results.
Knowledgeable on accuracy, precision, limitations, applicability, standards, and calibrations.
Follows and understands Quality System procedures and protocols.
Reviews and improve testing Laboratory protocols and procedures in line with policies and standards procedures.
Executes test procedures in compliance with lab HSSE policy.
Participates in equipment troubleshooting and organizes equipment calibration and schedules preventative maintenance when required.
Participates in Root Cause Analysis in case of resin performance issues on own production
Interprets, records and reports data accurately - acts if needed
Acts and follows up with equipment manufacturers on technical problems or abnormalities to keep the lab running flawlessly
Meets and ensures others collectively meet customer requirements in terms of turn-around time
Skills & Requirements
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Minimum Associate degree in Plastics, Chemistry, or related scientific field of study is preferred.
Minimum eight (8) years related work experience in Plastics Testing Laboratory, or Petrochemical Laboratory.
Has a background in polymer strength testing, and polymer flow testing (knowledge)
Demonstrated background in safe laboratory work practices in Plastics, or Chemicals (skilled).
Demonstrated knowledge and abilities with Gas -, Liquid -, and Size Exclusion Chromatography (knowledge).
Understanding the concept of Statistical Quality Control (skilled).
Demonstrated abilities to troubleshoot instrumentation and method related issues (knowledge).
Demonstrated communication and stakeholder management abilities
