$11.25 per hour- GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES- Responsible for performing custodial work to include: total floor care; cleaning restrooms; replacing light bulbs; performing other cleaning tasks; locking up City Hall each weekday evening; reviewing custodial work performed by night custodians (contractors); and, setting up for City Council meetings and special events. Work is performed with close supervision (although most tasks are routine, little supervision is required).
Performs general cleaning at a variety of City-owned facilities, which includes total floor care, cleaning restrooms, replacing light bulbs, picking up and removing trash, and performing other cleaning tasks.
Prepares for meetings and special events, which involves cleaning areas and setting up chairs, tables, and/or other specified items. Performs clean up and take down for meetings and special event areas.
Serves buildings by locking up the City Hall building on a daily basis. Monitors meeting schedules and leaves appropriate areas available for entry.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous custodial activities, which may include watering plants in lobbies, monitoring the condition of flags and replacing as necessary, and performing other related activities.
Performs minor repairs of all buildings and equipment.
Installs electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiling during remodeling projects; replaces and repairs wiring as needed.
Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building structures.
Ability to use good judgment and follow safety precautions.
Demonstrate the ability and understanding to operate equipment used in daily operations.
Performs outside custodial duties as required.
May be asked to obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or G.E.D. ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English or Spanish, ability to add and subtract, ability of apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Three months custodial experience.
Current valid Texas Driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
Frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, and fingering.
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
Work is typically performed in both standard office and outdoor environments, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Potential exposure to risk of electrical shock and infectious diseases.
OTHER CAPABILITIES
Knowledge of janitorial principles and practices.
Skilled in cleaning facilities.
Skilled in utilizing applicable tools and equipment of the trade.
Skilled in communicating effectively with a variety of individuals.
