Job Summary and Scope
Provide personal protection, safety and security for patients, employees, and visitors in hospital buildings and on premises. Provide physical security of all buildings and grounds. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Essential Functions:
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-service training, meetings and workshops.
Conduct interior and exterior patrols giving special attention to locked and unlocked doors, unauthorized individuals on premises, suspicious people, safety hazards, vandalism, theft and disturbances.
Respond to all situations requiring emergency assistance, and as first responders during incidents, disasters, terrorist events, reports of fire, smoke or drills
Maintain awareness of responsibilities concerning fire and disaster procedures; maintain complete awareness and compliance with all safety regulations.
Provide personal protection to all patients, visitors and staff; assist with uncooperative, difficult or violent individuals.
Respond immediately to all reports of fire, smoke and/or fire drills.
Respond to any situation that may present a safety hazard or risk to people and property.
Provide patient and visitor assistance as required.
Maintain a daily log of all encounters, duties and assignments in accordance with department policy. Write detailed incident reports as required by policy.
Provide parking control as assigned to include monitoring and removing unauthorized vehicles in patient or employee parking areas, fire lanes, reserved areas and all restricted areas.
Monitor security systems; maintain familiarity, knowledge and proficiency with security systems, panic alarms, access systems and reporting programs.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Licenses/Certifications
: Valid New Mexico driver’s license
Certificate from International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) or obtain within six months of date of hire.
Work Experience:
Six (6) months’
work experience as a security officer in a healthcare environment
Preferred Educational/Experience Requirements:
Three (3
) years’ work experience as a security officer in a healthcare environment
CPR Certification for Healthcare Providers
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, reference checks and a post offer drug screen.
Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
Tuberculin Skin Test required annually

Working Conditions
Typical office and/or patient care, acute care hospital environment.
Must be able to travel locally between facilities and within the surrounding community.
