JOB OVERVIEW
The College of Medicine, Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting a Building Maintenance Superintendent 2 (BMS 2) in the Materials Management & Physical Operations department. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.
The BMS 2 will have experience with overall building maintenance and be mechanically inclined with a can do attitude. The BMS 2 will work with vendors, contractors, and managers to coordinate completion of projects. Must be able to use Microsoft Office products including preparing reports, etc. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is required; a CDL would be a plus. Must have the ability to work flexible hours when necessary and work on call.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Act as foreperson for a designated area. *Perform hands-on work as required. *Meet with engineers, designers, contractors, department heads, and higher-level management to coordinate activities. *Maintain inventory on equipment and supplies. Initiate requisitions to order supplies and/or equipment. *Prepare budget requests and insure cost efficiency of area. *Assist in employee develop and formal staff training. *Design and administer promotional, hands-on examinations. *Maintain a library of technical information. *Maintain shop and personnel files and records. *Address subordinates' grievances; provide information to subordinates as needed. *Take an active role in progressive discipline action (i.e., initiate reprimands and counseling; may recommend administrative hearings). *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). *Perform related duties based on departmental need. REQUIRED EDUCATION
High School Diploma/GED.
REQUIRED TRAININGS/CERTIFICATIONS
*Approved certificate from an accredited trades apprenticeship program. *Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years related work experience following the apprenticeship program, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
High School Diploma or GED and eight (8) years of related experience, including three (3) years supervisory experience.
