Core manufacturing processes include extensive carshell welding activities, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly.The Industrial Engineer for Warehouse and Logistics has the primary responsibility to ensure that the Warehouse is set up to utilize space efficiently including material packaging to support a low volume, high mix production operation needs utilizing Lean Methodologies.Responsibilities:• Preparing standardized work instructions, floor layouts, and material storage configurations.• Setting up production material and improve space utilization through design and implementation of racking systems, flow racks, component conveyance systems, vertical lift modules, carousel storage systems, and component sorting systems from small hard ware components to large “rail vehicle” size components.• Working understanding of material density, reducing sku quantities, processes for obsolete inventory, processes for re-slotting storage locations, seasonal variations, utilizing cube, creating more storage spaces, decreasing aisle widths, and increasing pallet storage density.• Working knowledge and understanding of permitting requirements, foundation requirements, and other regulatory requirements when implementing shelving systems, racking systems, and other component storage configurations or methods.• Develop a data-based method for forecasting warehouse configuration changes for components storage on shelves, conveyors, and pallets based on anticipated new business. (New Product, Shift of Products, etc.)• Lead material storage improvements, complex process changes, and technology changes including developing a core team, assigning / reporting to a steering committee, projecting efforts involved with implementation, and identifying impacts to the business.• Define and implement the overall material packaging specifications for groups of materials and incorporate them into the standard purchasing policies and supplier agreements.• Develop and implement material packaging standards and specifications from supplier to warehouse, warehouse to production, and supplier to production for manufacturing materials and components• Develop material packaging and material packaging specifications based on size, material composition, usage, and travel distance including dunnage requirements for small, medium and large manufacturing material and components.• Review and approve suppliers packaging (single use) and returnable crates.• Define and implement a material conveyance system for production components including supplier to warehouse, warehouse to production, and supplier to production for manufacturing materials and components• Coordinating and communicating technical information to and from all levels of the organization including vendors, project managers, production team members, and operations managers.• Developing department procedures to improve business and warehouse transactions.Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:• 5 – 7 years of experience working in a warehousing logistics group to set up upgrade and improve logistics performance within an operations environment.• Firm project management skills, including developing project plans, timelines / schedules, budgets, proposed layouts, resource requirements, calculating ROI, etc.• Practical knowledge of the lean tool box and ability to utilize lean principles to reduce waste.• A history of “hands-on” approach to problem solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility.• Demonstrated knowledge of the structure and make up of vehicles, including welding activities, fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly.• Demonstrated understanding of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing and its impact to dimensional accuracy and/or welding quality.• Experience using different types of bills of materials between engineering and production.• A history of driving projects in a very dynamic low volume start up production environment.• High school diploma or GED• Required travel: 5%Organization: Siemens MobilityCompany: Siemens Mobility, IncExperience Level: Experienced ProfessionalJob Type: Full-timeEqual Employment Opportunity StatementSiemens is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer encouraging diversity in the workplace.
