Tasks:

This position works in a truck garage shop and the position holder performs light mechanical repairs as needed on 18 wheeler trucks and trailers. Performs preventative maintenance and vehicle inspections.

Applicants will be considered for any shift such as day, evening, or late night. Maintenance crews may be required to work 7 days per week. Scheduling can include some major holidays. Must be able to understand and agree to follow Safety Rules (ie. Lockout/Tagout). Must be able to comply with OSHA standards.

Requirements:

Must have required tools; Entry level set, Standard Wrench set (1/4-1 1/4'), Metric Wrench set (8mm-22mm), Standard 1/4 drive socket and ratchet set (1/4-1/2), Standard 3/8 drive socket and ratchet set (3/8-15/16), Standard 1/2 drive socket and ratchet set (1/2-1 1/4), Metric 1/4 drive socket and ratchet set (8mm-13mm), Metric 3/8 drive socket and ratchet set (10mm-19mm), Metric1/2 drive socket and ratchet set (13mm-24mm), Complete set of Phillips and standard screwdrivers up to #3 on both, Set of pry bars with at least a 20 inch bar, 12 volt test light, we supply a shop Volt/Ohm meter. Small and large pliers, needle nose, wire crimping pliers and vise grip pliers. 3/8 air ratchet, 1/2 air impact. We supply the larger tools needed, the 3/4 drive and 1 drive, axle sockets and special tools for individual engines and units.

Must have valid driver’s license. Experience in heavy duty truck repair and service helpful. Must be able to communicate with truck drivers. Basic math skills as needed to make work related computations for machinery, fluid capacities, etc. . Previous mechanic experience required.

Willing to stand, walk, bend, stretch, climb, push, pull, kneel, squat, and reach and climb ladders and onto trucks. Willingness to lift 70 lbs. on a daily basis. Must be able to tolerate climates ranging from very cold to very hot and from very wet to very dry. Exposed to various elements of weather. Must have general understanding of heavy duty truck repair. Willingness to tolerate odors associated with chicken processing and offal trailers.

Additional Requirements:

Applicants who have worked for Tyson before may be considered for rehire if they meet the location’s rehire criteria. Applicants who have worked for Tyson before may be considered for rehire three times. Applicants that have a positive or adulterated drug screen or who are unable or refuse to give a sample will not be considered further and must wait a minimum of 6 months to reapply. Your application is only active for the current month in which you applied. You will need to reapply next month to have an active application and be considered for employment. Must have 12 months of continuous employment within the past 36 months with the same employer. Candidates that will be considered will be only from the Lancaster, Berks and York County area.
