Assist the cleaning supervisor in ensuring effective and efficient operations of cleaning services within the Premises.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
(i) General cleaning of areas within the Premises such as hall, stairs, toilets, offices etc.
(ii) Specialised cleaning of areas such as computer rooms, laboratories etc.
(iii) General cleaning of residences, such as bedrooms, toilets, kitchens etc.
(iv) Change linen in bedrooms where required.
(v) Collection and distribution of laundry etc.
(vi) Clean windows, walls etc.
(vii) Handling in to supervisor of any lost property found.
(viii) Any other duties appropriate to the post.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
(a) Ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of the areas allocated for cleaning
(b) Reporting to designated supervisor any incident or accident particularly with regard to security, health and safety etc.
(c) Reporting to the designated supervisor or caretaker of the area concerned any damage to University premises and property such as broken windows, graffiti, torn curtains, damaged blinds, furniture etc.
(d) The post holder has a responsibility for ensuring safety in the workplace and in this respect ensuring compliance with all instructions relating to the use and storage of materials/equipment necessary for the performance of his/her tasks.
(e) Such other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required within the level of the post.
General Conditions
(a) Whilst the cleaner will initially be located within a particular team, he/she may be required to work anywhere within the premises. This could take the form of assisting with occasional functions or relocation, either temporary or permanent.
(b) The cleaner job may be required to undertake evening duties as part of his/her normal working hours or to work additional hours for which payment will be made.
(c) The cleaner may be required to work shift rotas on a temporary or permanent basis after consultation.
(d) The cleaner will be required on occasions to attend training courses as specified by the University after consultation.
(e) The cleaner will be required to wear protective clothing provided by the Dept.
(f) The cleaner will use only the equipment and materials provided by the Dept.
Health and Safety
The cleaner will be responsible for Health and Safety in the area under his/her control on a day-to-day basis, and must ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that he/she is familiar with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and recommendations and that these are observed within his/her areas of responsibility.
